SK lubricants opened up a lubricants industry in Korea by starting
up a lubricant blending facility with a daily production capacity
of 550 barrels in December 1968. The company has remained committed
to providing a variety of lubricating oils for industry in Korea,
expanding capacity to the present 4,000 bpd of lubricants, 4,000
bpd of base oil, and the 6,000 tons/year of grease.
SK lubricants has
continued to lead Korea's lubricant industry from the outset.
Company researchers developed SD 5000, HIFLO, and ZIC A, which
were awarded as the Best Hit Product motor oil by major Korean
daily newspapers.
In 1998, SK lubricants recorded 220 billion won in lubricant
sales by increasing the export of YUBASE and introducing a diverse
product line under the ZIC brand name.
YUBASE, the first very high viscosity index (VHVI) base oil
made in Korea, made its debut in 1995. This product is widely
recognized for excellent quality and is being scrutinized as
a replacement for existing base oil in the world market, which
is to activate a new engine oil standard, ILSAC GF-III, in 2000.
ZIC, developed by SK lubricants with YUBASE, recorded 37% of
the market share thanks to excellent product quality, newly
streamlined distribution networks, and effective advertising
strategies. It has clearly emerged as the main motor oil brand
for vehicles in Korea.
SK lubricants is maintaining the top position in Korea by offering
the best quality products. The company is also exporting lubricants
to Japan, China, Russia, South America and Asia and emerging
as a world-class lubricants company.
